The living BORZOIS

Before anything else let me tell you that I actually only live for my dogs, they are with me at home, on excursions or travels. Even for shopping trips they wish to come along.

In the whole house, there is no Off-Limits aera for them - all doors are wide open. The large garden is there for their complete convenience. Practically every room contains dog beds. At night at least one of them is on my bed.

We can even talk with one another and that happens as follows: They usually come together, the dogs are inseparable, no one does anything without the other, they stand in front of me and look at me which means: ask us what we want. So I ask: Do you want to go to the garden? No reaction. Are you hungry? The tip of their tales move just a tiny bit which indicates you are getting close. So I continue, do you want a Pans? The tails move more but I still have not said the correct word. Do you want a fish? Now their tails are wagging like mad and they are jumping about for sheer joy that at last I have unterstood. They run ahead of me, they know exactly where the large tin is with the dried fish and happily they each accept their fish. Arusha does not ask, but she has of course observed what was going on. She stands at the top of the stairs and looks down. She knows she has not been forgotten and that she too will receive her fish. However, she expects me to bring it up to her and this I naturally do.

It is wonderful to have such a close unterstanding with one's dogs and I am sure they feel the same - judging by their happy bright expressions! Alas one also has to accept things one would rather not. You can read about this in Section "Do you need Homeworkers?" Enjoy!

BALCHAS - who - according to his pedigree - got the name BOGRAM and was born as 3rd pup. From his mother's side he comes from the line of my deceased dog KURAKIN, whom I loved above all. TOTSCHKA, his dame passed on so much of this line that made me want a pup especially from her.
On 15,05,99 I saw three dogs still available. BOGRAM (called BALCHAS) was the largest and he promised to become a handsome dog, just as I had imagined. At that time I still had MIMOSHA 11 years old and ARUSHA 9 years old. What would happen if I presented these two old girls with a pup? Surely he would miss his brothers and become home-sick because the old girls were already turning up their noses when they sniffed at the little boy. Oliver was prepared to let me have 2 dog puppies. BALCHAS measures now 90 cm at shoulder - as I had hoped. He is an "analyser", whatever he accepts by hand he first carefully examins it, picks it up, puts it again on the floor or on a cushion, sniffs at it agin, picks it up yet again and then very slowly he enjoys eating it. He is a Sonnyboy who when the bell at the gate rings, he runs with his brother to joyfully welcome all visitors. The mailman always brings them a dog biscuit.

BOYAR is BALCHAS' litterbrother and arrived as No. 5 of the litter. He has the stature and smooth coat of his dam - he should have been a little bitch. He is not much smaller than BALCHAS but of finer bone and less substance. A gentle, affectionate cuddle-dog but without the strong nerves of his brother. Yet he is very brave and can look into this world seriousely and intelligently. We therefore call him the "Professor". He is a watch-dog, he barks as soon as he sees somebody or something passing in the street. If the bell at the gate rings, he is happy, visitors are not barked at, you greet them with tail wagging, and most of the time they even bring biscuits for the dogs. If an accident should ever happen, then it is usually with the "Little one". HE steps onto a piece of glass, HE injures himself with a thorn of the rosesbushes, HE hurts himself in a wild game with his brother, HE cries out when it hurts his ears when we drive the car over a mountain and the descent was too steep.
Perhaps just because of this he is so close to my heart -
